We haven’t done a Quickbites for some time, but with so many great food-related events coming up we felt compelled to give you the scoop!
This weekend, July 20th-22nd, is the 33rd annual
Jazz & Rib Fest presented by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. It will once again be held at the Arena District riverfront with 23 rib teams competing to see who will be crowned champion. The festival runs Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm and Sunday 11am-8:30pm and as, well as ribs galore, there’s plenty of other food, music and
other activities.
Another event this weekend is the
Columbus Landmarks tour of Hungarian Village which ends at the Hungarian Reformed Church with their traditional summer picnic of goodies available for purchase. The tour starts this Saturday, July 21st, at 10am.
Later in the day (6-10pm) is the
German Village Art Crawl. 30 regional artists will magically transform the garages of Macon Alley into mini-galleries — as they display, sell and even demonstrate their work. Enjoy live music, sample food from local restaurants and enjoy a drink as you explore the art.
On July 25, Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will be the featured author at Thurber House’s
Summer Literary Picnic where she will share from her James Beard award winning cookbook, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home (which is now in its 7th reprint!) In addition to the reading, guests are invited to picnic on the side lawn of Thurber House and engage in Q&A with Jeni after the reading. Picnicking starts at 5:30pm followed by the reading at 7pm on the side lawn of Thurber House at 77 Jefferson Ave. Guests can purchase boxed dinners beforehand, or bring their own picnic and beverages (alcohol permitted). Tickets are $30 for a boxed dinner and the reading, and $15 for the reading only. Call

July 25th is also the opening day of the
Ohio State fair which runs until August 5th. On this weekend’s
Foodcast (Saturday 2pm) on WCBE 90.5fm we’ll be talking with CMH Gourmand about what’s good to eat at the State Fair. There’s plenty more than deep fried buckeyes. One of our favorite events if the Pork Rib-Off which is July 31st at 11:30am in the Central Park.
On Saturday July 28th
The Hills Market debuts a new summer event – an Ohio brisket picnic and bull ride. Fearless attendees can ride a mechanical bull, listen to live music from
Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons and dine on summer time picnic food from Hills Market.
Looking further ahead the 4th annual
