We are pleased to be partner with Local Matters for a special benefit tour during Local Foods Week 2010 (October 2nd-8th).
Our tour will highlight some of the talented chefs in Columbus who emphasize local sourcing. Our four stops will be Skillet, Latitude 41, Clever Crow (at Circus) and Knead and will also feature CBC beer to accompany our Clever Crow pizza.
Skillet exemplifies seasonal driven and ingredient centered menu. If you haven’t tried their farm to fork comfort classics you have been missing out. Their breakfasts are famous, but did you know that they are open for dinner too?
Latitude 41 In his first year as head chef David MacLennan has been transforming the menu at Latitude 41, increasing the use of locally sourced ingredients. We’re excited to see what he has in store for us for Local Foods Week.
Clever Crow was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations but many people still haven’t tried this unusual take on pizza, perhaps because it’s hidden in Circus. Owner Gary Robinette uses a special sourdough and (locally sourced) cornmeal base and tops it with piles of seasonal vegetables and house-made sausage. We will be pairing our pizza with some Columbus Brewing Company beer.
Knead are one of our partners for our Short North tour. They opened in July 2010 and made it clear from the outset that they were serious about local sourcing. The name Knead connotes that they try to make everything from scratch from breads to pastas to sausage. They can often be seen coming back from the North Market loaded down with meats from Bluescreek.
Local Matters is a not-for-profit based in Central Ohio working to create a healthy community through the lens of local food. We do this by working to build awareness in the community through our one-of-a-kind programming, which was developed to promote healthy food education, increase access to wholesome, delicious food, support family farmers and advocate for fair food policies.
You can hit all of these great restaurants in one night, and as well as eating their wonderful food you will have a chance to meet the chefs and owners and learn more about the challenges and rewards of local sourcing. The tour is on Thursday October 7th at 6pm and tickets are $60 with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Local Matters. This is a van based tour so space is limited. Tickets must be booked in advance and can be purchased here.
Please let us know if you would like a vegetarian meal or have any dietary restrictions.
