As mentioned previously, CMH Gourmand and I have been working on a joint project: Mapping and sampling all of the taco trucks in Columbus. Geography and food – a perfect hungrywoolf endeavor. Here is a map of the taco trucks we have located and eaten at so far. View Larger Map

Our timing wasn’t ideal and sub zero temperatures are not prime taco tasting conditions but we are nothing if not hardy. We had a lot of fun on this project, were joined by some enthusiastic friends and ate A LOT of tacos and all sorts of weird and wonderful cuts of meat. I am glad I have not kept a count of how many tacos I have eaten in the last month.

To try to build a comprehensive and hopefully useful taco truck resource we have started another blog. http://tacotruckscolumbus.wordpress.com

I am sure that it will be ongoing and as the weather warms up I am sure more trucks will appear, in the meantime please let us know if you know of any trucks we have missed.

My personal favorites were:

Taqueria Jalisco
Taco Nazo
Los Potosinos
Las Delicias

My favorite taco filling is lengua (tongue) but we tried a lot of different dishes and I learned a lot about Mexican street food.

Thanks to all of those who made suggestions, came truckin’ and helped with the project.

  1. This is immensely cool — a very impressive effort. Many thanks for your time and trouble!

A question… do you have any idea why these trucks seem to line up so neatly from northeast to southwest?

One of the things I would like to do is analyze the locations and look to see how the they correlate with demographic information. Sadly we are as far away as can be from the last census. Theories are that the locations relate primarily to the Latino population concentrations in the city. But they may also relate to where people work, as well as live. Individual truck owners choose their locations based on where they can get permission to park, visibility, parking and where they are ‘known’. On a major road they get more passing trade.

There’s a TT on S Hamilton Rd – just off I-70, just south of Groves Rd, right across from the old MediaPlay store. Haven’t been there, but it was open all winter!

Thanks – we checked it out this weekend and have added it to the map.

  4. Very cool effort. Look forward to more reviews of these handy taco wagons.
